A Guide to PE Planning

Published on 27th September, 2024

PE Planning’s number 1 ambition is to make PE lessons as active, engaging and easy to deliver as possible. If you are new to PE Planning, this guide will demonstrate how to download PE lesson plans, PE resources and PE curriculum documents.

1. Sign up to PE Planning and download lesson plans

If you have already been given a PE Planning account by your school, or have already signed up as a Free PE member, you can skip this stage and move onto item 2 of this guide.

If you do not yet have a PE Planning membership, you can sign up for our free PE resources, sign up as a Teacher for £6 per month, sign up as a Sports Coach for £25 per month, or sign your whole school up from £199 per annual.  It takes less than 5 minutes to become a member from this page.  Here are some video guides that may help:

2. Downloading PE Lesson Plans

Our website has 18 different sports to choose from for Year 1 to Year 6 pupils, including Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Football and Fitness.

For our Foundation Teachers, there are 7 Units of Work to choose from, including an introduction to Dance Lessons, Movement Development, Ball Skills and ‘EYFS Working with Others’.

All Units of Work are National PE Curriculum based, and our Foundation Units are linked to the Statutory Framework for EYFS.

Here is a short video demonstration for downloading our PE lesson plans…

3. Additional Resources

A broad and balanced PE Curriculum requires more than lesson plans!

Whether you are a Class Teacher looking for classroom activities, a PE Coordinator planning sports day, or SLT road-mapping the curriculum, we have everything a primary school needs to deliver an outstanding PE programme.

This video demonstration shows how to access our additional PE resources…

4. Browse and download PE Curriculum documents

Each Unit of Work is accompanied with PE Knowledge Organisers, PE Implementation Documents (Medium Term Planning) and PE Assessment Grids.

To help teachers assess their pupils, we have a range of options…

  • Assess Individual Pupils
  • Assess the Whole Class

Here is a short video guide on where to find the above Supporting Content for each Unit of Work…

For PE Coordinators and SLT, there is a range of essential PE mapping and curriculum documentation available to download.  These can be found in our Curriculum section.

To help demonstrate a broad and balanced PE Curriculum in your school, you can download our Intent, Implementation and Impact documents by Year Group or Key Stage.

In this area, you will also find other useful documents and templates such as PE Policies, Risk Assessments and even a PE & Sports Grant template to publish your Primary PE and Sport Premium spending for the year.
