Wow… We’re almost done! The school year is nearly over, and soon all you’ll have to concentrate on is summer trips away, glasses of wine on an evening and which boxset to binge.
But wait… Yes, the new school year in September may be a long way off. But what if you were able to get a head start on your primary PE planning? What if there were a few simple things you could do that will make your life much easier in six weeks’ time?
We know that September will definitely be the last thing on your mind right now, but believe us, these five ideas will make the return to school just a little bit easier!
Prepare your PE displays
Our primary PE Planning ideas start with this: Downloading and printing everything you need for September that will make PE fun, engaging and a central part of learning for the next school year.
We have plenty of downloadable templates and examples here, and having these all ready now means less stress in September, or less time spent in the classroom in the days before the Autumn term starts.
Plan your first week of PE
Even just planning your first week of PE lessons will help you hit the ground running in September! Your first week of PE lessons will be about starting off on the right foot. Establishing rules, building a good relationship with the children in your class, but most of all… Creating a passion for PE!
You’ll want to make PE lessons active from the start. Think about quick, easy-to-plan PE games that get pupils moving; maybe reward winners or those who show the most effort. We have some quick PE games here that you can download.
Order your PE equipment
Now, there are plenty of PE lesson plan ideas that don’t need any equipment. But equally, you’ll often need equipment to help you deliver fun PE lessons! Once you have planned your first week of PE, order the equipment you’ll need to deliver it.
It depends on how you have planned your first week, of course. Standard items we’d recommend though would include cones, balls, Gymnastics mats and a stopwatch.
Make a note of special requirements
Your new class for September means lots of new faces and names to remember. And, potentially, special requirements.
Make sure you’re clued up on what you may need to consider for PE lessons. This may inform the kind of PE activities you choose, or how you organise PE lessons. You might find it useful to speak to the teacher in the year below before this term is out to get a head-start on what you may need to plan for.
Download PE lesson plans
Engaging PE lessons start with great PE lesson plans – and you can download our PE lesson plans here! Remember, if you simply plan for your first week back, you only need Lesson 1 of your chosen topic.
Primary PE planning is easiest when the weather is still good. September weather usually allows for some outdoor PE lessons, so you may want to focus on outdoor activities. Don’t disregard indoor PE lessons, though – and to help you in this sense, should the weather dictate it, here’s our suggestions for classroom PE games.
