Intent

At our primary school, we recognise the vital role of PE in supporting children’s physical and mental well-being. Our goal is to inspire a generation to lead active lives, work as a team, and encourage one another to succeed.

We offer a dynamic and diverse PE curriculum, along with extra-curricular activities that build resilience, motivation, and ambition.

Through this, we equip our pupils with the skills and knowledge required for a healthy and well-balanced future.

Implementation

Our PE program offers a broad and enriching curriculum, ensuring all pupils consistently engage in high-quality Physical Education.

Each class receives at least two hours of PE per week, including both indoor and outdoor sessions. These lessons are primarily taught by class teachers, supported by teaching assistants, and guided by National Curriculum-based lesson plans and resources from PE Planning Limited, a leading educational supplier in Physical Education.

We provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to develop transferable skills across five key areas—Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor Adventure Activities (OAA), and Swimming—through PE lessons, school sport and extra-curricular opportunities.
Our dedicated PE Coordinator works closely with staff to ensure a high-quality curriculum is delivered to all our pupils.

Impact

Physical Education plays a vital role in developing pupils’ physical skills, fitness, and overall well-being.
It empowers children to make informed choices about their health and understand the importance of an active lifestyle. Our high-quality PE program positively impacts academic achievement, aspirations, and long-term physical activity habits.

Long Term Planning

This is the annual rolling programme for Physical Education in our school which supports a broad and balanced PE curriculum.

PE Mapping

Here is an excerpt from our PE curriculum map, designed to organise and sequence learning across all year groups. It ensures progression, consistency, and the development of appropriate knowledge and skills in each sport throughout a child’s primary school journey.

Medium Term Planning

Our PE medium term plans provide a clear overview of the learning objectives, key unit outcomes and progression across each unit of work. Here is a sample.

Lesson Planning

Here is an example of the resources we use to deliver high quality PE lessons to all our classes. All the lesson plans we use consider the learning stage, progression and knowledge of all pupils.

Assessment

Here is a sample template used in our school to track and support pupil progress in PE. This helps us to continually monitor pupil learning and identify both strengths and areas for development to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
